Aregbeaola/Oyetola rift: Osogbo council chair impeached

The rift between the Governor of Osun state, Mr Gboyega Oyetola and his predecessor, Rauf Aregbesola, has taken new dimension as the Chairman, Osogbo South Local Council Development Area, Hon Hakeem Olaoye, was on Tuesday impeached.

The impeachment, it was gathered, was occasioned by his disobedience to the directive not to attend the installation of Aregbesola as the Amirul Waziril Mumini in Osogbo, on Friday.

It was gathered that the impeached Chairman has been displaying his loyalty to the Senator representing Osun Central, Dr Ajibola Bashiru who is a loyalist of Aregbesola.

Though, Olaoye was said have been impeached for alleged financial misappropriation, misuse of power and abuse of office.

It was gathered that a Commissioner who attended the turban ceremony is striving to save his appointment.

The impeached Chairman was said to have been nominated by Senator Basiru during the administration of Aregbesola, hence his loyalty.

In his response to the impeachment, Olaoye described the purported impeachment as “Christmas joke.”

He said, “It is a Xmas comedy. It is politically motivated. They have never invited or notify me of any council

meeting nor served me any notice of impeachment. I don’t agree with them on embezzling the masses money.
“I had never gone through any investigation despite that they have access to income and expenditure of the Council. Let the House of Assembly do justice on this allegation and punish appropriately.

Meanwhile, Osun State House of Assembly has reversed the impeachment of Olaoye.

The decision of the assembly followed the consideration of the petition against the impeachment of the council boss. The assembly was considering passage of budget when the letter of impeachment was submitted and considered immediately.
