Aregbesola’s aides back direct primary for Osun APC governorship aspirants

All Senior Special Assistants to the Governor of Osun state, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, have commended the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for adopting direct primary system for the Thursday primary election in the state.

Engr Bashir Lawal, who spoke on behalf of the Forum of Senior Special Assistants to the Governor, said the forum has supported the decision of the national body of the party.

According to the forum, the direct system will reduce the fear of delegates inducement by aspirants and also give people ability to involve in the selection of their candidate.

“We commend the decision of the National Working Committee of our party in settling for the direct election mode for Thursday’s primary. Direct primary helps in throwing up a credible, suitable and a popular choice.

“For a fact, indirect primary negates the democratic credentials upon which a progressive party like ours thrives.

Speaking on the call to concede the governorship slot to the West Senatorial District, the forum said, “while we sincerely sympathise with the proponents, even supporters, of this call, we however strongly believe that direct primary will judiciously address any fears which might have led to this call in the first place.
