Arewa group apologises to INEC boss over call for his sack

The Arewa Citizens Watch for Good Governance has apologized to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, over reports in the media calling for his sack.

The group, in a statement by its Secretary and Publicity Secretary, Musa Muhammad and Umar Farouk Abdullahi, Wednessday in Abuja, acknowledged they were alledgedly approached by officers of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) led government in Imo state to collaborate with them and make the call for the sack of the INEC Chairman.

“However upon consideration by the executive body of the organization, we resolved not to work with them as we did not see any basis to take part in such unpatriotic acts as the INEC Chairman was obviously delivering on his job to conduct free and fair election.

“We are however shocked to see reports in the media that we called for the sack or resignation of the INEC Chairman in a press conference addressed by our former Chairman Alhaji Mohammed Adamu.

“We make bold to say we did not make this call, we appreciate the work of the INEC Chairman.

“Our name has been clearly impersonated to make this call. We presume this is part of the widely reported plot to stop the use of the BVAS for the 2023 election as it has been in the media that there is a plot to remove the INEC Chairman for this to be achieved.

“We therefore condemn this call and officially dissociate ourselves from it as our organization never subscribed to it and we are against it,” the Arewa said.
