Leader of the Coalition of Northern Youths (CNY), which had issued a quit notice to Igbos to leave the North on or before October 1, Comrade Shettima Yerima, has faulted the utterances of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) against former governor of Abia state, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu over the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu, describing the group’s utterances as unguarded.
Comrade Yerima, who is also the leader of Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, made the statement in Kaduna yesterday while fielding questions from journalists, describing IPOB officials “as irresponsible ingrates who lack the common sense to come to terms with reality.”
Yerima expressed surprise that the IPOB spokesmen could “extend their traditional ways of insults to even someone like ex governor Orji Uzor Kalu,’’ lamenting that in spite of Kalu’s efforts in sustaining relative peace in the country, IPOB has resorted to calling him names.
According to him, “a man who has frequently shuttled the North to discuss the safety of his people deserve more than appreciations. If they couldn’t contain their pot of insults and decide to extensively extend it to even the ones sticking their necks on their behalf, it simply shows how irresponsible, ungrateful and unappreciative they can be.”
The Arewa Youth leader further slammed IPOB for dishing out half truths about Kanu’s whereabouts.
“I wonder the reason for such propaganda by IPOB. Even when they said Nnamdi Kanu’s father was missing, a doctor in Federal Medical Centre confirmed he slumped and was brought for treatment at Federal Medical Centre. Meanwhile, IPOB claims they (Kanu’s parents) disappeared or the army has them,” he argued.
It will be recalled that at the heat of the quit notice that was handed down to Igbos by Arewa Youths, ex governor Kalu was one of the leaders who engaged the Coalition of Northern Youths, which culminated to the rescinding of the order.
