Armed banditry: 5,000 Zamfara IDPs return home

No fewer than 5,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) have been relocated back to their respective villages, following the quick intervention by the military under operation Sharan daji in their effort to dislodge the activities of armed bandits in Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state.
This was made known by the outgoing force commander of the operation Saharan daji, Major.
Gen. Mohammed Mohammed at the formal symbolic handing over of the command to the new posted force commander Maj.Gen. Stevenson Olabanji in Gusau, the state capital today.
He said efforts have been made to ensure other IDPs in Shinkafi and Maradun have been stabilized to their respective communities within a short period of time considering the effort made by the military in curbing criminals’ activities in their areas.
He said, the operation Saharan daji command has ensured adequate protection of their lives and properties of the returning IDPs within their respective domain as soldiers under the command have been stationed in their respective villages.
According to him, within his stewardship in Zamfara state for over one month, the military under his supervision had succeeded in neutralizing armed bandits, total destruction of their camps particularly in some of the affected local government areas in the state.
He said, the operation Saharan Daji under his command was assigned by the 1 Division Kaduna to cover both Sokoto, Katsina, Kebbi and Zamfara states through intensive operations within the four states borders where the bandits used to penetrate to Zamfara state.
He also called on the new commandant to work assiduously by making all arrangement to get rid of the armed bandits in the state and other criminality as enshrined in the rationale behind forming operation Saharan Daji by the federal government.
Speaking earlier, the new force commander of operation Sharan Daji, Maj. Gen. Stivenson Olabanji said, he will continue where the outgoing commander stops to ensure wiping out of armed bandits in the state and it’s neighboring states of Kebbi, Katsina and Sokoto.
