Army, EFCC collaborate to fight corruption

Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has assured the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of his support in the fight against corruption.
He gave the assurance when he received the Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu in his office at the Nigerian Army Headquarters, Abuja.
He described corruption as a cancer that has dig deep in the country, and which required the support of every Nigerian to eradicate.
“It is our routine in the Nigerian Army that we check ourselves in order to avoid anything that will lead to lack of accountability,” he said.
“Immediately I was appointed as the Chief of Army Staff I went ahead and declare my asset as expected of me by the constitution. I did same when I was commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force. I also directed my subordinates to also declare their assets.

“And since I assumed duty we have done a lot of audit both at our headquarters and all army units and formations across the country in order to ensure accountability.
“ We will always work with the EFCC to ensure a corrupt free system. If there is any report and anybody is found guilty, we will deal with him/her accordingly.”
Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of the EFCC, said his team was at the army headquarters to solicit the COAS support for their upcoming campaign, which is to mobilise women in uniform in the fight against corruption.
“We want to appeal to you for you support in the fight against corruption,” he said. “ We are not saying you should abandon your fight against terrorism, but we need your support in anti-corruption and to mobilise women in uniform.”
He described the Nigerian Army as “the leading force” which needs the support of all Nigerians to succeed in the fight against terrorism and insurgency in the country.
