Army: How we subdued Boko Haram, recovered arms in Damaturu

The Nigerian Army said it successfully laid ambush which led to extermination of many of the Boko Haram terrorists who attempted to infiltrate Damaturu, the Yobe state capital Tuesday evening.

A statement made available by the spokesman of the sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole, Lieutenant Njoka Irabor said, “the terrorists were overwhelmed by the superior fire power of the gallant troops and the well coordinated air support from the component of Operation Lafiya Dole.”

The statement further, indicated that many of the terrorists met their
water-loo, some wounded and large equipment were recovered.

“2 x Gun Trucks, 2 x Anti Aircraft Guns, 1 x 60 millimeter mortar, 4 x
AK 47 riffles. 1 x General Purpose Machine Gun, 1,245 rounds of 7.62
mm (NATO) were recovered.” the statement read in part.

Irabor said details and possible recoveries would be provided on completion of the mop up operations.

The Police Public Relation Officer in the state, ASP Abdulmalik Abdulhafiz, also confirmed the attack, but said normalcy has since returned to the area and called on the residents to always inform security agencies on the movement of suspected individuals.
