The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state chapter has expressed dismay over the verdict of the Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal which upheld the victory of the Seyi Makinde as the duly elected governor of the state.
The tribunal had Monday in a unanimous decision agreed with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of Makinde as the winner of the March 9 governorship poll in the state.
However, the APC said it received with dismay the judgment of the tribunal which dismissed the petition filed by Chief Adebayo Adelabu, the APC candidate in the governorship election for lack of merit.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Dr Azeez Olatunde, said in a statement Monday in Ibadan that the State Working Committee would refer the ruling to its legal team for necessary recommendations.
Adelabu had dragged Gov Makinde, who is the PDP candidate in the election, before the tribunal to challenge his victory at the poll.
“The State Working Committee of the Party in its proactive manner has decided to refer the tribunal ruling to our team of legal experts for necessary recommendations which the party hopes to follow appropriately,” it said.
It thanked members of the party for being law abiding and urged them as well as sympathisers to await the party’s next line of action in due course.(NAN)
However, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the tribunal’s decision to uphold the victory of Governor Makinde, describing it as victory for democracy, justice and the people of Oyo state, who gave him their mandate on March 9, 2019.
The party in a statement by its national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, Monday stated that “the jubilant atmosphere across the state over the verdict is a clear testimony that the judgment fulfilled the desires and expectations of the people of Oyo state.
“The people of Oyo state are particularly overjoyed with the judgment because of Governor Makinde’s demonstrated capacity and commitment to deliver good governance in all sectors of life in the state.
“The PDP in congratulating Governor Makinde and the people of Oyo state also commends the governor for his zeal in repositioning the state and urged him not to relent in his vision to turn around the fortunes of the people.
“The party also commends the members of the tribunal for their courage in delivering justice in spite of the shenanigans and manipulations of the All Progressives Congress (APC)”.
