With respect to the promulgation made by the newly elected Vice Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, in an interview with INFORMEDIA, where he pledged to make BUK Information Communication Technology (ICT) Driven institution in Nigeria, as such so many BUK students were happy to express their concerns about Prof. Sagir’s statement.
The Question asked was; AS A BUK STUDENT, WHAT DO YOU REALLY HAVE IN MIND AS FAR AS ICT IS CONCERN? Below are some opinions of Bayero University students:
Ibrahim Suleiman Ibrahim said: Students should have access to their Results online in order to ensure privacy and Wifi should aslo be avaliable in the campus. He added that Online suggestion platforms should be made avaliable for each Department with the Departmental IT Officer, frequently checking those anonymous suggestions instead of those suggestion boxes that are just there.
Kabir Adam Gwarzo “In fact, we need Wifi to be installed in hostel.”
More so, Yahya Muhammad Abdullahi said, there should be a subsidy networking program for students in the institution to acquire digital Skills while in the university.
Abubakar Idris Madobi noted that, “In my opinion, let the result be access online or in text message for privacy and confidentiality, however, WiFi should also be available within the compus. of course, this will really make us proud. Faculty of Social and Management Science, Department of Accounting.”
However, Ahmad Sulaiman wants the new Vice Chancellor to introduce CBT Test and Exam in the university.
Conversely, Aliyu Balarabe, Department of Mass Communication, faculty of Communication is wishing the VC to design sites for research, Investigation, online Conferences, seminars and other scholalistic presentations and analysis.
Meanwhile, Adda’u Usman disclosed that the present state of internet in BUK is very poor, stressing the need for it to be addressed immediately and WIFI should be installed in every nooks and crannies on both campuses to enable both staff and students get access to any information regarding their studies. He added that Students results’ should be placed online to reduce the burden and hectic of traveling far and wide to check, saying this will go along way in easing the students difficulties in so many aspects of their stay in Bayero.

Similarly, Misbahu Masa’ud, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Physical Science stressed the need for Results to be accessed online and WIFI to be available wherever you are within both campuses.
Identically, Justice Arab said:“We are in total support. At least results and courses should be online where one can easily have access.”
Sulaiman Maijama’a, Department of Mass Communication, Faculty of Communication, Concluded by recommending that, “Mr. VC should ensure that the lingering problems that have been bedeviling the school portal every year due to over congestion, especially when it comes to hostel application and registration be addressed. He should also provide free wi-fi all over the university community.”
Therefore, based on the available response so far, it’s a clear indication that, Bayero students are eager to have their Results online and availability of WiFi across the university premises. We hope and pray that the incoming Vice Chancellor will put smile on the thousands of BUKITE faces by transitioning our results into online systems and Making WiFi to be more available.
