As NASS plenary resumes: Lawan predicts complexion of 9th Senate

Shape and character of thecoming 9th Senate to be inaugurated in June, 2019 after the expiration of the current 8th Senate have been unveiled.

The 9th Senate, according to the leader of the current senate, Ahmad Lawan ( APC Yobe North), will be a  senate that would be productive driven and not hostility driven against any arm of government .

Lawan who made the submission on Tuesday while fielding questions from journalists on what Nigerians should expect from the 9th Senate , said it will be a senate that will be well disposed to the aspirations and policy directions of the executive arm of government particularly , the presidency .

“According to him, being a senate that will be more populated by members of the ruling All Progressives Congress ( APC), it will be on the same page with with the executive arm of government on business of governance and not antagonistic in anyway .

Lawan, who was the candidate of APC for the Senate President in 2015 and widely believed to be in the race for the leadership of the 9th Senate , explained further that  that the next Senate would be in full synergy with the President.

He stated that  the fact that the APC had gained more number of seats in the upper chamber, it would result into greater synergy between it  and the Presidency.

He said: “We thank God we went for the election and we won. And not only winning, APC gained more seats than they did in the 8th Senate.

“This will bring the required synergy between the Senate and by extension the National Assembly with the executive arm of government, particularly the Presidency.

“It will be a Senate that will have very positive disposition to aspirations and policy directions of the executive.

“Our prayer is that Oil price in the international market should increase more than it is now.

And even daily oil production should increase from 1.9million to the projected 2.3 million in the 2019 budget so that the executive can rake in projected revenue for a friendly National Assembly to give the required Appropriation.

“All in all, the 9th Senate and by extension 9th National Assembly will be one that will be on the same page with the executive in the next level agenda that will be characterized with robust and smooth business of governance”.

At the moment, APC has no fewer than 65 Senators while the PDP has 41 .
