The annual procession by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria otherwise known as Shia members Tuesday to mourn the prophet Muhammad’s grandson Imam Hussaini who was assasinated during his lifetime turned bloody as a result of a clash between them and the Nigerian police.
The clash occurred at about 9:AM along central market when the members of the Islamic sect were demonstrating.
Our correspondent reports that the police men hurled tear gas to disperse the demonstrators even as they shot some of the sect members whom according to eye witnesses refused to stop the rally.
It was also gathered that the police had banned such procession prior to the ‘Ashura’ day.
