Asking Supreme Court to reverse self, mockery of democracy – Don

A University Don, Dr. Lateef Musibau, has described the call by politicians for the Supreme Court to reverse itself on recent rulings as a mockery of democracy.

Speaking on the appeal filed by All Progressives Congress (APC), in Zamfara and Bayelsa and that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo state, the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife, on a radio programme, Frank Talk, Friday in Osun state, Musibau called on the affected political parties to accept the earlier judgments in good fate.

He said, “It is a mockery of our democratic system. The attitude of everyone going back to the Supreme Court asking that court to reverse itself, it is shocking and unfortunate.

“Everybody is aware of the saying that the Supreme Court is final, but not because they are infallible.

“What they are saying is that that court doesn’t know what it is doing. I agree that in the recent time, the judgement that have come out of that court, with due respect, they have been riddled with controversies, inconsistencies and all of that.

“But, beyond all that, we have to appreciate that Supreme Court is our final court. Whatever error of that court is a reflection of our imperfection, particularly the elites, who provide the loopholes for the Supreme Court to do some of the inconsistencies.

“To me, the Supreme Court is still the final court and we should not mock that court. They should allow this to pass. They can amend the constitution. Whatever justification they have, it doesn’t serve our democracy well.
