Aspirant urges supporters to avoid politics of bitterness, violence

 

All Progressives Congress Gubernatorial aspirant and former Minister of Transport, Senator Abdullahi Idris Umar, has urged his supporters to avoid politics of bitterness, violence, hate speeches and any other form of political misconduct that will polarize the state and heat up the polity.
Senator Umar made the called during the official launched of his 2019 gubernatorial campaign machinery in Gombe yesterday, and charged members of the committee to live above board by putting the interest of the state above other interests.
Senator Umar told them that the movement which is tagged ‘Project 2019’, is a project of hope which will ensure an all inclusive governance, unity and progress of the State.
He said the main duty of the committee was to come up with a template that will capture the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the State.
Responding, Chairman of the State Coordinating Committee, Malam Ibrahim Abdullahi Zamfara, promised to work meticulously for the success of the team and expressed confidence that Almighty God will grant them success at all stages of the movement.
Orji urges judges to punish child abuse offenders
The former governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial district, Theodore Orji, has called on Nigerian judges to punish child abuse offenders.
The Senator described incidences of child abuse as ‘sickening’ adding that the recurrent media reports across the federation on the matter was embarrassing.
He said this while contributing to a debate on: “Urgent need to stop the increasing rate of Child Labour, molestation and abuse in Nigeria.”
He charged at the high rate of child abuse, noting that the nation was not doing enough in dealing with the culprits; hence, the menace has continued unabated.
The lawmaker explained that children were vulnerable; stating that any form of abuse affects their growth and development.
“Mr President, distinguished colleagues, children are gifts from God. They should never be abused. Any form of abuse affects their growth and development.”
“I therefore, call on judges not to leave those involved, but punish them severely to serve as deterrence to others,” he submitted.
Adding to Orji’s call, Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu maintained that Nigeria has enough protective laws for children, but has problem of implementation.
He said it was high time the various domestic laws as well as international conventions were implemented to save children from abuse.
