Assault: Senator Abbo arraigned, gets N5m bail

The FCT Police Command, Monday, arraigned Adamama Lawmaker, Senator Elisha Abbo, before the Magistrate Court in Zuba, a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Abbo, who was arraigned before Federal Capital Territory Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Ilellah on a one count of assault, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of N5m.

Abbo, who was earlier arrested by the Police on July 11, by the FCT Police Command and released the following day, was caught on video slapping a nursing mother repeatedly at an adult toy shop in Abuja, an action which attracted criticisms from a large section of Nigerians.

The assault, which reportedly occurred on May 11, 2019, happened in the presence of an armed policeman who rather than assist the victim, attempted to arrest her.

He had admitted to the offence and also apologised to Nigerians at a press conference when the video went viral.
