Assembly poll: Court sacks Edo APC candidate

A Benin Federal High Court Wednesday nullified the candidacy of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Oredo East State Constituency
Mr. Osaro Obaze ahead of House of Assembly election.

Delivering judgement in the suite filled by Mr Ekhosuehi Eghosa challenging Obaze’s candidacy, Justice (Mrs) Adefunmilola Demi – Ajayi held that the defendant was not the rightful nominated candidate of the party.

The plaintiff had prayed the court to set aside Obaze’s nomination for the state assembly poll.

Eghosa further told the court that the defendant neither purchased nomination or expression of interest form for the House of Assembly.

Reacting to the judgement, Edo State APC in a statement signed by its State Publicity Secretary Mr Chris Azebamwen said Obaze remained the party’s candidate.

He told the party’s supporters to keep faith and remain steadfast.

Azebamwen said: “The leadership of our great party will do everything necessary and explore all legal options to ensure that the mandate which we collectively gave Hon. Obaze to fly our flag in the elections of Saturday, March 9, 2019 remains valid.”

On his part, Obaze appealed to his supporters to vote APC and expressed optimism for victory at the Appeal Court.
