Assembly receives proposed amendments to 1999 Constitution

The Osun State House of Assembly on Wednesday received the proposed amendments to the 1999 Nigeria constitution from the National Assembly for considerations.
The Deputy Speaker, Adegboye Akintunde, who presided over the deliberations, said during plenary that the document has been forwarded to the House and subsequently read out the 17 sections of the 1999 Constitution earmarked for amendment.
He urged his colleagues to carefully digest proposal and ensure that aspects of the constitution proposed for amendments were clearly understood and therefore be in position to make informed contribution that would facilitate amendments desired in the interest of the larger society.
Also, he said the input of members was very important and should national interest and assured that the legislator in the state would do thorough job on the assignment.
The Majority Leader, Timothy Owoeye, later sought through a motion that members be allowed to study the document before the House deliberate on the amendments, and was seconded by Wasiu Adebayo. The motion was granted.
