Assembly summons CP over alleged release of suspected criminals

The Ondo state House of Assembly has summoned the state Commissioner of Police, Andie Undie to appear before it on Thursday 12 September 2019.

The assembly said the commissioner should appear along with the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ikare Akoko and Irun Akoko.

This was sequel to a motion under matters of urgent public importance.        

The house Majority Leader, Honourable Jamiu Sulaimon Maito, representing Akoko North-west constituency 1 had informed the house at plenary of how armed robbers arrested in the area by vigilante groups and duly handed over to the police were later released by the police.

Maito noted that it took his intervention and those of other prominent citizens of the community to prevail on youth in the area not to take the law into their hands, assuring them that their grievance would be channeled to the appropriate authority, over the matter.

After his submission, the house ruled that the Police Commissioner should appear before members on the date in question.

Also, members spoke on the recent xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other nationals in South Africa and urged the federal government to adopt a proactive to tackle the matter.

Hon Adeyemi Olayemi representing Owo constituency 2 said being proactive in handling the matter would curb the recurrence of the attacks.

 Other lawmakers called on Nigerians to eschew criminality and be more positive in their attitude to life.
