ASURI leadership accused of funds misappropriation

The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Research Institutions (ASURI) has been alleged for exploiting the funds produced to advance the initiatives of the union activities waiving aside its main objectives.

According to the ASURI Reform Group, led by the Chairman, Electronic Development Institute, Awka branch, Dr Oluwaseyi Ogungbenro, that the attitude of ASURI leadership, represented by the Secretary General, Dr. Theophilus Ndubuaku and the central working committee led by the President Dr. Adebayo Ajala has for long been disheartening.

Ogungbenro stated this while addressing newsmen over the weekend in Abuja.

“Through their activities and refusal to tolerate opposing views, have factionalized ASURI and plunge her into unwarranted debt and disregard for ASURI’s constitution.”

He further said that so many plaques had befallen ASURI and attracting urgent intervention which the reform group observed and have directly and indirectly notified the National Executive Council (NEC), members and the Central working Committee, (CWC).

“No financial documents was handed over to the financial Secretary and the treasurer as against Rules 6(e) of the ASURI provisional constitution. Even when the financial Secretary and the treasurer made frantic and documented request to remedy the situation, they were frustrated by the National President and the Secretary General.
