ASUU agreement: FG releases N100bn for varsities

The federal government has released another tranche of N100 billion in the special NEEDS intervention for infrastructural development of all public universities in the country.

This was the resolution of the Implementation Monitoring Committee of the Needs Assessment Report at their meeting in Abuja yesterday.
Blueprint learnt that allocation papers for the tranche of development fund would be signed by the Director of Tertiary Education of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Hindatu Abdullahi.

A source at the meeting said all public universities had submitted their work-plan to the Implementation Monitoring Committee, with most of them approved while the construction works were expected to commence as soon as the procurement jobs were completed.

The highly-placed source at the meeting informed Blueprint that members were unhappy with ASUU for making unfavourable statements to the media that was capable of generating unnecessary tension in the academic community.

It was learnt that the Supervising Minister of Education, Barr. Nyesom Wike, and top officials of the Federal Ministry of Education were mandated by the committee to organise a technical briefing for all the vice chancellors of the universities in the country on the execution modalities for the project.
