ASUU: FG’s position on NLC planned solidarity protest illegitimate, anti social – AWC

National Coordinator of All Workers Convergence (AWC), Comrade Andrew Emelieze Thursday kicked against the position of the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on planned nationwide protest by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Comrade Emelieze in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan described the minister’s  views on the planned protest as “illegitimate and antisocial”

The former Trade Union Congress (TUC) chairman in Oyo state tasked the NLC to ignore the minister’s claim and go ahead with the planned nationwide protest in support of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU).

“We the Nigerian workers welcome the call for the two days national protest by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) in solidarity with the striking university workers. We call on all workers nationwide to join the protest and make it a success.

“We are however dismayed by the position of the Minister of Information, Mr Muhammed, who had turned himself to  judiciary and has unanimously declared the protest  illegal. The position of Mr Muhammed is illegitimate and antisocial,” he said.
