Labour union in Osun state, Tuesday joined their counterpart throughout the nation in protest against the federal government calling for immediate end to the ASUU strike.
The union led by Comrade Gbadebo Awotayo, the Vice Chairman, Osun NLC, picket the government office in Osogbo, the state capital and paralysed business activities for some hours.
The protesters also went to the state house of assembly where Awotayo presented a letter to the speaker, Hon Timothy Owoeye.
He urged the legislators to enact a bill that will stop government officials from taking their children abroad so that they can prioritize public education in Nigeria.
“Government must stop political office holders and leaders in country from taking their children out of the country to study. They should enact an act to stop them from sending their children outside the country, this will force them to prioritize education in Nigeria,” Awotayo stated.
The speaker, who responded on behalf of the legislators, promised that the message would be delivered to the federal government for urgent action.
He noted that the strike did not affect only the lecturers, saying that the menace of armed robbery, kidnapping and all other vices could be traced to the closed tertiary institutions.
