At Easter, Chimaroke Nnamani greets Nigerians, wants enhanced remuneration for doctors fighting COVID-19

Chairman, Senate Committee on Cooperation and Integration in Africa/ NEPAD, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, has urged Nigerians to see the current Covid-19  pandemic as a wake up call to return to God even as he urged governments to place high premium on the state of health facilities in the country.

The former Governor of Enugu state noted that the global affliction, yet to have a known cure has left humanity with no option than return to God saying “in the midst of this affliction, turn to God for protection and healing.”

Nnamani in a goodwill message to Nigerians  to commemorate this year’s Easter in Abuja said the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ should be the elixir needed  to confront the challenges and provide the road map for national recovery, adding that “everything including science may fail but God never fails.”

He noted that the nation triumphed over challenges like the Ebola virus Disease in the past and called for collaborative efforts and the reinforcement of that indomitable spirit that had seen her through various travails. 

To achieve the goals, Sen Nnamani enjoined citizens to adhere to the lockdown directives of government by maintaining social distancing, staying safe at home, constant hand washing with soap and water and the use of  alcohol-based hand sanitizer .

Sen Nnamani who is also a Medical Doctor praised medical practitioners on the frontline in the fight against the COVID-19 scourge , pointing out that “ the challenges are enormous but with collective will between authorities and healthcare  professionals solutions will be found.”

He therefore urged governments at all levels to do all that is needed for the healthcare givers; in terms of equipment , enhanced remuneration and  insurance cover for them forthwith.

He implored citizens to be guided by the teachings of Jesus Christ, which includes sacrifice, perseverance, tolerance, love and forgiveness for one another in order to make our society safer and better for all.

Nnamani also enjoined the clergy to always preach peace, love and harmonious  relationship in order to avoid   cases of occasional conflicts between or among different faithful.

The serving Senator reminded governments of the need to provide the enabling environment for citizens to actualize their potentials pointing out that “justice for all persons irrespective of tribe or religion is the road map to peaceful coexistence”.
