ATBU matriculates 7,158 students


Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi has admitted 7, 158 students for the 2020/2021 academic session as against 4, 000 admitted in the previous years.


The Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Mohammed Abdul’aziz disclosed this Friday during the matriculation ceremony of the newly admitted students held at the university hall.


He said even though huge number of students were admitted, the school has devised a means of segmenting the students for lectures to contain the spread of COVID 19.


The VC said by next year, the university may introduce e-learning so that students can be at home or hostel and receive lectures.


He also said that the university management is mindful of the current security situation in the nation and has taken some measures asking the students to report any suspicious movements to management for prompt action.


In his speech, the registrar Dr Ahmed Garba, said part of the measures taken by the management to prevent the spread of COVID 19 pandemic in the institution is that any staff, student or visitor without facemask will be denied entry.


He noted that to motivate the lecturers due to increase in classes they are going to be attending to as a result of the new system of decongestion of students at lecture rooms, the senate of the school has recommended some stipends to them.


The registrar advised the newly admitted students to be studious and shun anti social behaviors pointing out that ATBU has zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractices and indiscipline.
