Atiku, APC, Oliseh, others congratulate Joshua

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and many other enthusiasts sports Nigerians including former Super Eagles skipper, Sunday Oliseh have congratulated Anthony Joshua following his win against Andy Ruiz Jr in Saudi Arabia .

Joshua avenged his loss to Ruiz back in June this year with a unanimous points decision win.

The win saw Joshua reclaim the IBF, WBA and WBO titles, now making him a two-time world heavyweight champion.

Reacting to the win Abubakar expressed delight that Joshua has finally reclaimed the world titles.

“Great to see @anthonyfjoshua reclaim the championship. A good fight,” Abubakar wrote on his Twitter handle.

In their own reaction, the ruling political party, The All Progressives Congress (APC) also congratulated Joshua .

The party in a statement Sunday in  Abuja, said Anthony Joshua’s boxing career suffering a major setback following a shock defeat to Andy Ruiz six months ago but approached the disappointment with positive spirit.

“We are not surprised by Anthony Joshua’s deserved and stunning comeback victory which saw him retake the IBF, WBA, IBO and WBO titles.

“Anthony Joshua now joins a small cluster of men including Muhammad Ali, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson and Floyd Patterson to have reclaimed the world heavyweight title.

“Anthony Joshua’s persistence and resilience represent the typical can-do spirit of Nigerians in the face of adversity. He is a man who is proud to be a Nigerian doing his best in his calling to uplift the name of his fatherland. He rose to world best in boxing with determination, exhibiting the positive audacity for which Nigerians are known worldwide

“As the ruling party, espousing on the ideals of resourcefulness, hardwork, self-belief, and patriotism, we are proud to present Anthony Joshua as an emblem of a true Nigerian. We see in him, the embodiment of the national identity every true Nigerian is made of.”

Former Super Eagles skipper Sunday Oliseh wrote:”So relieved and pleased to see our Nigerian pride Anthony Joshua regain his title as World Heavyweight champion, defeating Ruiz. Loved his gratitude to God first, after the victory. Boy  was I stressed.”

And according to Odenwingie: “Different skillset from AJ. Live and learn. Reacted sensibly (lost some weight and no omplacency)  Congrats @anthonyfjoshua . Don’t judge a book by its cover @Andy_destroyer1 With God all things are possible. He is a good fighter and very strong mentally.”
