Atiku condemns alleged Saraki’s complicity in NASS complex siege

The Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Organisation has described as laughable the alleged complicity of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, with the leadership of the Department of State Security Service in Tuesday’s siege of the National Assembly complex.
The Organisation’s Director of Media and Publicity, Segun Sowunmi, stated this while reacting to the statement attributed to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the effect that the blockage of the Assembly entrance by heavily armed men of the DSS was staged managed by th leadership of the senate to elicit public sympathy.
Sowunmi, who cautioned Nigerians against believing unsubstantiated and unverifiable rumour pedaled by social media, however said such claims ought to have been thoroughly investigated by the APC and a responsible organ of government before feeding the public with such information.
He lamented the APC’s resort to such unproved allegation and worst still feeding the gullible public the sensitive statements that reflects dangerous on Nigeria’s nascent democracy.
“What you expect a responsible government to do is to investigate such sensitive matter and established the fact before making public statements.
But you see when a set of activities relevant to democracy is done and it is ignored like what was happening round Benue State or in Ekiti before the election, what you are going to get is that people get emboldened to continue in the direction that leads nowhere honourable”, he said.
According to him, had the APC-led federal government been proactive and forthright against acts of brigandage, outlawry and abuse of the rule of law by it agencies, particularly security operatives, the attempted coup against democracythe legislature- could not have taken place.
“Had those who had the responsibility of managing security in the country acted swiftly against abuse of rule of law, they would have sent a clear signal that that level of meddlesomeness and unprofessional conduct by security agencies are unacceptable in a democracy.
It is needless and regrettable set of activities that our country has been subjected to”, he lamented.
According to him, it is such display of undemocratic tendency by the APC federal government led by President Muhammadu Buhari that makes Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who is imbued with democratic credentials and well acquainted with administrative protocols that Nigerians need to takeover leadership and revamp the country from further slide.
He, therefore, urged Nigerian electorate to gear up for 2019 general election and endeavour to vote out the APC government even as he believes the PDP would give Atiku Abubakar the ticket to fly its flag in the presidential election.
