Atiku’s chances to be president

Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had tried several times to rule Nigeria but failed. His failure to win the presidential elections was linked to alleged corruption against him which until date he has not been arrested by the EFCC or forced to refund any of the money he was said to have stolen during his service as the vice president alongside President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Nigeria is governed by law and nobody is above the law. Former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki was alleged to have diverted money meant for weapons to fight terrorism. He was arrested and forced to return the loot. In August 2017 EFCC traced at least N47.2billion and $487.5million in cash and properties to former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, and many others.

Now these are people whose corruption had been proven to the world. But Atiku’s case is exceptional. No attempt to arrest Atiku on corruption till date, but whenever he got the chance to run for president corruption is used to paint him. And for years this issue had been top for his failure to win alongside rigging.

Atiku must stand on his feet to fight this issue to enable him achieve his long time dream. Atiku Abubakar is a business mogul whose skills and hard work keep pumping him huge money. In terms of security, Maitatsine had made Nigeria scary during their time in office. In 11 months they tackled the deadly terrorist and restored peace. Eventhough Boko Haram terrorists differ from Maitatsine, bandits and kidnappers have almost been normalised in Nigeria now, with no safe place.

To give a man who is successful in local and international business a chance to rule is not a bad idea. Nigerians were heartbroken during President Goodluck Jonathan due to high insecurity. Most people believed Buhari will be the answer but unfortunately the story of insurgency now in Nigeria is much more than scary.

Atiku is among many tycoons Nigerians are benefiting from. But will giving him a chance to become president make Nigeria great? Giving him a chance should not be a mistake to regret and get stuck for another eight years.

God bless Nigeria and choose the best leader.
