Aviation minister reveals when work on Enugu airport runway ‘ll be completed

The Minister of Aviation Senator, Hadi Sirika has disclosed that he will soon announce when work on the Akanu Ibiam International airport runway in Enugu will be completed.

The Minister gave the hint when he revealed that the contractor handling the project has been remobilized back to site, to complete the rehabilitation of works at the airport.

He spoke via his verified Twitter account saying “We announce our full remobilization to Enugu despite COVID-19 lockdown.”

While acknowledging hiccups that will be encountered following the onset of the rainy season, Sirika affirmed that the challenges are not unsurmounted in due time.

“Even with challenges like heavy rains, opening up of quarries and bitumen sources we should complete this procurement in a few weeks.”

According to him, the completion date of the works will be made known at his next inspection visit to the airport.

“A definite date of completion will be announced at my next site visit”.

The lockdown brought about by the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic had halted works on the runway thus making a new completion date for the reopening of the Eastern Nigeria premier airport inevitable.
