AYG: Eagles face Djibouti as Team Nigeria increase medals’ haul

Nigeria’s under-15 footballers, Futures Eagles will today engage their mates from Djibouti in the second match of the group A at the ongoing African Youth Games (AYG) in Algeria.
Divine Nwachukwu’s brace helped the country’s U-15 national team to get their maximum three points as he scored the first and the last goal while Chidera Ejiofor scored the second goal to secure a 3-2 victory against Morocco.
Their last group game is slated for Monday against Libya at the P.
C Bab Ezzouar stadium.
Meanwhile, Nigeria seem to be enjoying a wonderful outing in the 3rd edition of the AYG in Algiers, the Algerian capital.
Already, the team have pocketed six gold and four silver medals.
The gold medals for Nigeria came from weightlifting where 2017 National Youth Games champion, Morufat Folarin 44kg and Agba Ebelechukwu 48kg respectively won three gold medals each.
Folarin who is an Ogun state athlete is amongst the youngest athletes paraded by the country.
Ajayi James competing in the 56kg won three silver medals for the nation.
Also, competing in the -100kg category, Madu Daniel swelled Nigeria’s medals haul with one silver medal in the judo event.
He defeated an Algerian opponent to win the medal.
In the men’s volleyball event, Team Nigeria got their Africa Youth Games medals quest off to a flying start with an emphatic 3-1 win over their Tunisian counterparts at Algiers.
The team won the first set by 25-20 points but the Tunisian boys stole the show in the second set by a slim margin 23-25 points.
The Nigeria boys regrouped and returned fired up beating their opponents in the third and fourth set 25-17 and 25-19 points.
