Ayine tasks African SAIs on impact-driven environmental audits

The Auditor-General for the Federation, Mr. Anthony Mkpe Ayine, has urged Supreme Audit Institutions in the African region (SAIs) to rise up to the challenges confronting their environment and carryout impact-driven environmental audits that will enhance biodiversity conservation and this generation and future ones from the harmful effects of global warming and climate change.

Deputy Director (Information) Oghenekevwe Ebireri, in a statement said,

Ayine was speaking as Chairman of the African Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions Working Group on Environmental Audit (AFROSAI WGEA) on Wednesday 7th October, 2020 at the 10th meeting of the body which held virtually due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

While noting that tackling multiple environmental challenges can be daunting, he tasked auditors to regularly improve their operations as well as identify what pressing environmental issues are currently facing the continent and work together in protecting the environment so that we can experience sustainable development.
