Azare lauds institute’s support on problem-based learning, other programmes



The Director General/Chief Executive, National Teachers’ Institute, Prof. Garba Dahuwa Azare, has commended the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL), Canada for its support on problem-based learning and the Institute’s other special programmes. 


Addressing the opening of a workshop on Gender Analysis organised by the Institute in collaboration with the Commonwealth of Learning, under the Green Teacher programme at the Institute’s headquarters in Kaduna, Azare expressed appreciation for the Vancouver based organisation’s continuous support towards it.


Azare, who was represented by the Institute’s Director of Examinations, Malam Bashir Mamman, said, “only a fortnight ago, we organised a workshop on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) for core team members and field officers with the support of CoL. 


“Our staff are now fully equipped with all the necessary skills and knowledge of problem-based learning as a viable approach to providing solutions to emerging issues on the environment.”
The DG assured that the Institute would continue to provide the enabling environment for the workshop’s success, while challenging the participants and Institute’s staff to ensure the dissemination of new ideas and knowledge they acquired from the workshops within and outside the country. 


Chairman of the Institute’s Green Teacher programme, Ndem Y. Ndem, said environmental education is a process that allows individuals to explore environmental issues, such engages in problem solving and taking actions to improve the environment. 

“As a result, individual develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues and have the skills to make informed and responsible decisions,” he said, while lauding the Commonwealth of Learning for the collaboration with the Institute and urged participants to ensure that gender issue is assimilated into the programme.
