‘Baby Awka’ regains freedom, denies financing cult activities in Anambra

The Chairman, Eke Awka market, Anambra state, Chief Emeka Agumadu (alias ‘Baby Awka’), who was recently arrested by the state Police Command as a suspected cult sponsor has regained his freedom.

Agummadu, a chieftain of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), in a press briefing after returning from police hook refuted reports alleging that he was a financier to cult activities in Awka, Anambra state capital.

He said the allegation was false and unfounded aimed at tarnishing his reputation and urged the Nigeria Police to thoroughly investigate the matter, because according to him, “I’m not a cultist and I don’t sponsor cult killings or any related crimes. The allegation is a handiwork of mischief makers bent on tarnishing my image.”

“As a philanthropist, I have changed the living conditions of so many Awka indigenes and contributed immensely to the development of the town,” he said.

He pledged unflinching support to governor Willie Obiano’s administration in providing security of lives and property of the citizen.

Blueprint recalls that the Anambra State police, Wednesday announced that they arrested Emeka Agumadu and three other persons for allegedly sponsoring cult groups in Awka, the state capital.

A release signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Muhammed, alleged the arrest was carried out by Operation Puff Adder following recent cult related killings in Anambra state.

The police were yet to issue a fresh release concerning his release and the condition of three other persons arrested with him.
