Bachama attack: Bindow summons traditional rulers

Death toll in Monday’s Bachama militia attack in four villages of Numan local government area of Adamawa state has risen to 60, locals and security sources have said.
Forty five persons were earlier confirmed dead, but the figure later rose to 60 as the spokesman of the state Police Command, SP Abubakar Othman, who initially put the number of those killed at 30, said investigation has commenced in an effort to track down the suspects.
Confirming the development yesterday morning, the North East chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), Mafindi Danburam, said “for now, 60 persons have been confirmed killed as the death toll continues to rise.
“As I am talking to you, nearly 60 have been confirmed killed. Even this morning, I was told that 7 more corpses were found in the bush and many people still missing.
‘’This is a pogrom; women and children were mostly killed by the attackers. Already, security personnel in collaboration with relatives are in the bush searching,” he said.
In the meantime, the state governor, Sen. Muhammadu Bindow Jibrilla has cancelled the usual Wednesday state executive council meeting and summoned all traditional rulers in the state for security meeting over the incident.
Governor Bindow, in a telephone chat, said an investigative committee will be set up as he commiserated with the victims, calling for restraint and assuring them of government commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
