Badaru presents Jigawa’s N134bn 2018 budget

Jigawa state Governor, Muhammad Badaru, yesterday, presented the sum of N134.17 billion as the state’s 2018 appropriation bill to the state Assembly.
The governor, who tagged the appropriation bill “Budget of Economic Diversification and Self Sufficiency’’, said the estimates is slightly above 2017 budget by 3.3 per cent.
The breakdown of major incomes, which will finance the budget, included the internally generated revenue (IGR) of N10.5 billion, and the statutory allocation and value added tax of N51.6 billion.
It also includes local government contributions for primary education personnel and primary healthcare staff of N17.8 billion
Other extraneous federal transfers in the budget are; excess crude oil receipts, N4.5 billion; opening balance for 2018 fiscal year (including funds in project accounts such as the universal basic education project account), N10 billion.
According to the governor, “while total recurrent expenditure has grown by almost 10 per cent relative to the approved estimates in 2017, the overhead cost elements in the 2018 estimates have actually declined by about 2 per cent.
“In other words, increase in recurrent expenditure was mainly accounted by personnel cost due to the recruitment in 2017 and new ones expected to be done in 2018.
“Capital expenditure is earmarked N67 billion, accounting for about 50 per cent of the total expected income. This is about 0.7 per cent below the 2017 initial approved estimates,” he said.
