Bala flags off 2, 500 houses for Bauchi citizens

The Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed on Saturday flagged off the construction of 2,500 affordable houses for the citizens of the state.

Speaking while flagging off the project at Dungal village of Bauchi local government area, the governor said the project which is in partnership with Family Homes Funds Limited was designed to help the poor citizens to own houses of their own.

According to him, the project is expected to be completed within 12 months, adding that the houses were coming at a period when the state’s demographics had changed dramatically due to internal displacement caused by insurgency as many people within the region came to the state to seek refuge.

He said the development has created the need for more houses to be built to provide shelter to the increasing population.

The houses, the governor noted, will be distributed across the six emirates of the state.

“Bauchi emirate council, 1,500 units; Azare in Katagum emirate, 350units;

Misau in Misau emirate, 250 units; Ningi in Ningi emirate, 200 units; Jama’are in Jama’are Emirate, 100 units; and Dass in Dass emirate, 100 units,” he said.

He assured that quality assurance mechanism had been established with a corresponding compliance arrangement to drive the project to effective delivery.

“I wish to reiterate that, in tandem with our desire to comply with the established building codes and the best practices in basic engineering management and evaluation. I will in addition to the statutory supervision of the Ministry of Housing, establish a task force in my office for monitoring and evaluation of the projects,” the governor stated.

Bala promised that local manufacturers and sellers would be patronised in the project in order to empower them and boost their businesses.
