Bala urges states, LGs to implement VAPP law

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state has recommended the enactment and implementation of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) law in all the 36 states of the federation and local government areas of the country.

He made the recommendation Friday during the launch of the cost model action plan and the inauguration of advisory and technical committees for the implementation of the law in the state.

According to him, the state is committed to implementing the VAPP law to eliminate violence against persons, especially women.

The governor noted that the VAPP Act enacted in the state prohibits all forms of violence against persons, adding that “it is also meant to promote maximum protection and effective remedies for victims as well as punish offenders accordingly.”

Bala said the law also addresses domestic violence and social vices like genital mutilation, rape and other human rights violation.

He charged the advisory and technical committees inaugurated to work spiritedly towards the successful implementation of the law in the state.
