Banditry: 8,000 killed in Zamfara in 9 years – PARE

The National Demographic Survey available to the Pastoral Resolve, an NGO working with French Embassy in the North-west has said over 8,000 innocent people have been killed as a result of the activities of armed bandits in Zamfara state in  the last nine years.

This was disclosed by Malam Idris Muhammad Katsina while presenting a paper titled, overview of the challenges of insecurity and conflicts in Zamfara state at a one day workshop on Conflict Sensitivity Communication to Support Peace Building Process in Zamfara state, organised by the Pastoral Resolve (PARE), in Gusau.

He said between 2011 and 2019, over 200,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) recorded 80,000 people fleeing into Niger Republic for their safety.

Muhammad appealed to the federal government for better policing in the country. He also urged government to  address some of the concerns raised in National Livestock Transformation Plan 2019.

In an address of welcome, the PARE, Zamfara state coordinator, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Maradun said the organisation is committed to work hand- in- hand with banditry affected states of Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger and Zamfara on how to find lasting solution to the security challenges facing the states
