Banditry: Army moves to curb menace, launches exercise Harbin Kunama 111 in Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto


The Nigerian Army on Monday launched exercise Harbin Kunama III to further curtail activities of bandits and kidnappers in Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto states.
Announcing the exercise at the Headquarters of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Gusau, Zamfara state, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, said the exercise would compliment all other exercises currently ongoing in the areas, including exercise Saharan Daji.


Represented by the Chief of Training and Operations, Maj. General Lamidi Adeosun, the Army Chief said the  operation like others would be conducted within the military rules of engagement and in conjunction with the Nigerian Police and other security agencies. 


The Army Chief said the operation was designed to respond quickly to distress calls as telephone numbers have been provided for members of the public to make available adequate and timely information to nearest troops’ locations.

He then, urged the people of Zamfara, Katsina and Sokoto states to co-operate with the security agencies by providing useful and credible information on the activities of the criminal elements.
He also commended officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for ensuring relative peace enjoyed in the area.
He assured that the military and other security agencies would continue to ensure security in the area in order to foster socio-economic prosperity for the people.
