Zamfara state governor Bello Mohammed Matawallen-Maradun will today initiate a bill that would make armed banditry, kidnapping and abetting criminals by passing information to them in the state punishable by death.
The aim would be to curb incessant cases of banditry and other criminalities which have become rampant in recent times in the state.
According to a release signed by the director general Press Affairs, Government House, Gusau, Yusuf Idris, the governor disclosed this Tuesday when he received the leaders of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria at Gusau, the state capital.
The governor said with the inauguration of the sixth assembly in the state, the bill would be prepared and forwarded to the legislature today for deliberation and passage.
The governor, who advised criminals operating in the state to surrender and embrace peace, promised to provide basic social amenities and infrastructure to the Fulani community wherever they may be.
He particularly stated that he would provide portable water, grazing lands and schools and called on the Fulanis to take their children to school noting that one of the problems which have led to insecurity in the state is lack of education.
Responding, the leader of the Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Kiruwa’s Muhammad, congratulated the governor on his victory in the last election, noting the group wants to explore workable avenues to attain lasting peace in the state.
Kiruwa, who urged the state government not to allow any criminal go free after arresting them, cautioned against unfair judgment or discrimination base on social class.
The meeting had in attendance the deputy-governor, Barr Mahadi Ali Gusau, immediate past deputy-governor, Mallam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad, PDP state chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Mallaha Gusau, SSG, Alhaji Bala Bello Maru, DG, Matawalle Campaign Organization, Alhaji Jamilu Aliyu Zannah, Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Muhammad Ahmad and all heads of security agencies in the state, among others.
