Bandits attack Ganduje’s convoy, Zamfara lawmaker killed

The convoy of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on Tuesday night came under the vicious onslaught of gun men on its way from Zamfara to Kano, hours after the governor attended the defection of Zamfara state governor, Alhaji Bello Matawalle from the Peoples Democratic party to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Our correspondent learnt that the convoy made a brief stopover to refill at a filling station, along the way, a result of which the bandits took everyone in the convoy by surprise, launching the attack without premonition, leading to various degrees of injury sustained by three security aides attached to the governor’s convoy.

It was, however, confirmed that Governor Ganduje was not in the convoy at the time the bandits perpetrated their despicable act, as he was reported to have joined the convoy of his Jigawa state counterpart, Alhaji Badaru Abubakar, who was also among the APC governors that attended Governor Matawalle’s change of nest to the All Progressives Congress.

On his part, the state Commissioner for Information, Comrade Muhammad Garba confirmed to newsmen that Ganduje’s convoy was attacked on its way from Zamfara to Kano, even though the three security aides were slightly injured.

In a related development, suspected bandits have killed Zamfara state House of Assembly member, representing Shinkafi local government area, Hon. G. Ahmed.

Clerk of the House, Alhaji Shehu Saidu Anka, in an interview with newsmen said, the late Ahmed was traveling on road when he was killed by the bandits.

According to him, the lawmaker was taking his son to a hospital in Kano for medical treatment, adding that that both son and his driver were kidnapped by the bandits.

Blueprint reports that Hon. G. Ahmed was shot dead along Sheme-Kankara road in Kasina.

Hon. G. Ahmed was also said to have left Gusau late evening on Tuesday shortly after the grand occasion for the defection of Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

Blueprint correspondent gathered that already the deceased body has been brought to his resident in Gusau and buried according to Islamic right Wednesday. He was the chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation of the state assembly.
