Bandits invade Zamfara community again, kill soldiers, 5 villagers, others injured

Suspected bandits have stormed Kabasa village under Gusau local government council of Zamfara state, and killed five villagers and three soldiers including a senior officer, even as they burnt Army operational vehicle during the attack.

A resident of the area identified as Malam Lawali Magami in a telephone interview with Blueprint in Gusau said the bandits besieged the village at around 4:30pm on Tuesday and shot sporadically on the community, adding that five villagers were killed on the spot.

Magami further said on sighting the military attached to exercise Sahel Sanity Operation, the bandits killed a senior officer who is also the Commanding Officer of the unit attached to Magami, Dankurmi and Dansadau areas along with his two officers, burnt their operational vehicle during an exchange of gun fire.

He added that already the eight corpses including the deceased soldiers were taken to Gusau, at the Federal Medical Center adding that many villagers injured while trying to escape from the bandits’ attack.

“As I am talking to you, five bodies of the slain villagers and three soldiers have been taken to Gusau and I can not ascertain the actual number of those who sustained injury during the attack on our village but all what I know that we have many people injured,” Magami stated. 

However, efforts to reach the military under Exercise Sahel Sanity Operation Information unit on the matter by our Correspondent proved abortive as at the time of filling the report but credible source close to the military confirmed the attack on their officers.
