Bandits kill 2 police officers in Kogi

Some yet to be identified gunmen yesterday invaded a police station at Gegu-Baki in Kogi local government area of the state, killing two police officers on duty and injuring a suspect in the police cell.
It was reliably gathered that the bandits, numbering five and heavily armed with AK 47 guns, invaded the police station about 2.
15 am yesterday on two motorbikes.
According to the source, the gunmen, on reaching the police station, opened fi re to scare people away and then moved straight into the station and fi red the two policemen on duty and injured a suspect in the cell.
It was further gathered that the armed bandits made away with the police AK 47 and ransacked the station for more guns and ammunition.
The source added that the operation lasted for 30 minutes as the bandits took their time to operate freely due to lack of electricity during the attack.
Confi rming the attack, the Police Public Relations officer of the Kogi state police command, Mr. William Ayah, disclosed that two police officers were killed by the bandits while the suspect in the cell was injured.
He noted that the Police Command has commenced investigation of the attack.
Meanwhile, the corpses of the two police officers have been deposited at the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja morgue while the injured suspect is also receiving treatment at the hospital.
