Bandits release 8 nationals in Zamfara

No fewer than eight nationals from Maradi state in Niger Republic who were in bandits’ captivity in Zurmi forest, Zamfara state for over one month have been released to the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku. They were released Tuesday.

In an interview with newsmen at the commissioner of police’s office in Gusau, the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Atiku said the bandits called him on phone and voluntarily handed over the victims to him Monday.

He stated that after thorough interrogation with the victims, they discovered that they are from Niger republic.

He said the state government will formally hand over the victims to Nigerian government for an onward action.

In an interview with our reporter, one of the victims identified as Muhammadu Sani Maradi said they spent over one month in the captivity of the bandits at Dumburun Forest of Zurmi local government area of Zamfara state.

He said, they were ambushed by the bandits on their way to Sunce market on market day under Maradi and took them away to Zamfara state.
