Bandits sack 10 villages, abduct 23 in Zamfara, Birnin-Gwari

Ten communities of Mada town in Gusau local government area of Zamfara state, have been sacked by bandits.

The latest banditry in North West came on the heels of 23 travelers being kidnapped in the troubled Birnin-Gwari area of Kaduna state, a witness has said.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who visited the Mada town on Friday, learnt that one person was killed during the incident, which took place on June 6.

No fewer than 200 bandits were said to have descended on the communities, rustling cows and other animals, forcing villagers to flee.

The villages are Fura Girke, Majira, Kanawa, Yargeba, Takoka, Bargaja, Bundungel, Bantsa, Unguwar Matanda and Makera.

Speaking with reporters at Mada, the Deputy Governor of Zamfara, Ibrahim Wakkala, appealed to the federal government to come to the rescue of the town.

Wakkala said a committee had been set up by the state government, to ascertain the level of damage caused by the bandits.

He pleaded with security agencies in the state to intensify efforts in tackling the activities of the bandits.

In a related development, armed bandits yesterday kidnapped 23 travellers in Birnin-Gwari area of Kaduna state.

According to a commercial driver, Mohammed Kebi, the victims include a nursing mother and her child.

Kebi, who escaped the kidnapping, said about five vehicles were intercepted during the abduction on Friday.

“At least five vehicles were intercepted by Kidnappers along Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna road around 11.00am this morning Friday. At least 23 people were kidnapped, including a nursing mother and one other kid.

“The incident occurred at Kwanar-tsauni between Udawa and Labi.”
