Bankers in police net over ‘theft’ in military bank

Some staffers of a commercial bank operating in one of the military formations in Kaduna state are being held over the theft of a large sum of money, our reporter gathered yesterday in Kaduna.

The incident was said to have occurred at Eco-bank situated in-between the old site of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) and Ribadu Military Cantonment, Kawo, Kaduna.
Spokesman of 1 Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Col. Sani Usman Kukasheka, confirmed the incident, but said investigation was still on and that it was investigation that would confirm the correct version of the incident.

He declined to make further comments, saying: “I can confirm that there is such incident of missing money, but how it occurred and who are involved depends on the outcome of investigation with the police. It is also important I clarify that our formation was never invaded or overrun, please.”
Our checks revealed that there were several versions of the incident; those bankers in police net were said to have conspired to carry out the act in view of the fact that the incident occurred around 7pm after official closing time. The second version had it that it was armed robbers that stormed the bank during working hours and carted away large sums of money.

It was also gathered that during the course of operation, no single shot was fired or heard at Ribadu Military Cantonment.
Another source said the bank had since been closed down as investigation was still on.
As at the time of filing this report, our reporter gathered that all the suspects arrested in connection with the case were likely to be charged to court.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Aminu Lawan, could not be reached for further comment on the police side.
