Baptist International School emerge winner of Spelling Bee Competition in Kogi

Baptist International School,  Lokoja, Kogi state has emerged as the overall winner of the maiden  Spelling Bee Competition organised by the Young Children Centre Point (YCCP) a Non-Governmental Organisation who have  been investing in children education.

The programme which took place at children amusement park in Lokoja  was highly competitive as it  involved the participation of  ten secondary schools randomly selected across the state capital.

At the end of the event which lasted for over five hours, Baptist International School came first while Harmony Secondary School took second position as Eagles Academy occupied third position.

Presenting prizes to the winners, the founder of the NGO ,  Rita Sadiq  called on Corporate Organisations and Philanthropists in the country to invest vigorously in projects that has direct impact on the lives and  feature of Nigerian  Children.

According her,  the only way children can be made as leaders of tomorrow was through constant investment in programmes and projects that can enhance the knowledge and moral behaviour of the  children.

She said :”It is high time Corporate organisations in states of the federation  should endeavour to  fund projects like the Spelling Bee  competition that have direct impact in the lives of children who are being regarded as leaders of tomorrow.

“YCCP  is not the type of NGO  that will collect money and run away ,  we have been working since 2014 using our money . We are appealing to corporate organisation and philanthropists to come to our aid so that we can have a structure and institution that will be vibrant in attending to the needs of the children and the society at large.

“I was motivated to organised the Spelling Bee Competition through  observation in the environment where i work as most people do not know how to spell words correctly and I strongly believe that they have the challenge for long as their basic education level  was not built up on that line

“That was why I decided to organised the spelling Bee Competition for young children in junior secondary schools in Kogi state that are coming up so that they can get used to their spelling base”

The winner of the competition went home with a Webster dictionary, six pieces of exercise books and one electric kettle. The second position also received a Webster dictionary, 6 Pcs of glassware cups and 6 Pcs   of exercise books while the third prize winner went home with a Webster dictionary, 3 PCs  of glassware and 6 Pcs of exercise books.
