Bauchi: 50 female students get NAWOJ’s education support

Bauchi chapter of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists(NAWOJ) on Monday distributed exercise books, schools bags, sandals and stationery to 50 girls in Dungal Primary School, Bauchi

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the gesture was to commemorate this year’s Girl-Child Day

Speaking at the occasion, NAWOJ Secretary, Hajiya Aisha Bamai, said that the gesture was to encourage girl- child enrollment in schools

“The materials will support beneficiaries to obtain basic education,” she said

Bamai said that the association was initiating measures to improve the socioeconomic status of women and children in the state, and urged individuals and corporate bodies to support the efforts

Abdullahi Adamu, in a remark, called on government to renovate the five dilapidated classrooms of the school, and also provide furniture and other learning materials

He also called for the construction of toilet facilities for the students and teachers, to make for proper sanitation and hygiene

Adamu appreciated NAWOJ’s gesture aimed at encouraging the girl-child to obtain basic education, and urged other groups to emulate the effort

Receiving the materials, the Head Mistress of the school, Mrs Grace Goje, appreciated the gesture and promised to ensure that the materials were put to effective use
