Bauchi assembly election legitimate–PDP Lawyers

Lawyers in Bauchi State under the auspices of ‘Body of Bauchi Lawyers of Conscience’ (BOBALAC) who volunteered to defend Governor Bala Mohammed in the suit filed by the ex governor at election petition tribunal have claimed that the recent election of speaker and deputy speaker of the state house of assembly where 11 out of 31 members voted was legitimate.

It will be recalled that some aggrieved APC lawmakers in the state who were not happy with the outcome of the election where a PDP member emerged as Deputy speaker despite the fact that his party has miniroty members have reportedly visited the APC National chairman Adams Oshiomhole and asked him to intervene in the matter.

Mr Oshiomhole according to reports has vowed to meet the Inspector General of police on the issue.

Addressing press conference on Thursday, spokesperson of the group Barrister Jibrin Sa’id flanked by the group’s leader Barrister Shipi Rabo said the members who participated in the election formed a qorum adding that Mr Oshiomhole was ‘either not properly briefed or decided to be mischievous about the whole matter’.

“To start with, the point he made about the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi taking the position of the deputy speaker in Bauchi State House of Assembly (BASHA) following its inauguration last Thursday despite its minority members is entirely wrong.” He said.

The lawyers also claimed that the remarks credited to the APC National chairman that he would meet with the inspector general of police was an effort to use the federal might to compromise security agencies in the state.

They appealed to him to go to court and seek redress rather than issuing threats and called on the security agencies in the state to remain strictly responsible, professional and unpartisan.
