Bauchi: Bala assents to 12 bills, assures of implemention

Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed, weekend assented to 12 bills passed by the State House of Assembly with an assurance of implemention for the best interest of the state. 

Speaking at the occasion held at the Council Chambers, Government House, Bauchi, Governor Bala said as partners in progress, his administration will collaborate with lawmakers to ensure good governance through appropriate legislation in order to achieve the desired objectives. 

The governor who pointed out that, enactment of laws by the legislature is a necessary constitutional requirement for the government agencies to operate accordingly and observed that, government agencies need legal framework and backing to function effectively as legal entities.

“Out of these 12 Laws, 7 have been enacted as new Laws to provide ways for the establishment of new Government Agencies, while five have been repealed as an amendment to an extant law. I want to make it abundantly clear that these laws have been made with the best of intention by the State Government and therefore call on all the agencies concerned to ensure that the laws are implemented to the latter and there is need for the officials of the relevant agencies to acquaint themselves with the details of the Laws.”

According to him, the 12 bills are, a law to Establish Bauchi State Vigilante and Youth Empowerment Scheme and other related Purposes 2022, a Law to Provide for the Establishment of Bauchi State and Local Governments Contributory Pension Scheme and other related matters 2022, a Law to repeal the Bauchi State Urban Planning and Development Board 2012 and Enact the Bauchi State Physical Planning and Development control Board 2022, a law to repeal the Bauchi State College of Agriculture Law 2013 and Enact a Law to Establish Division of Agricultural Colleges in Bauchi State University and for related matters 2022, a Law to provide for the Establishment of Bauchi Infrastructure Development and Maintenance Agency 2022, a Law to repeal the Bauchi State Separation of Account (Judiciary) Law, a Law to provide Bauchi State Tourism Development Corporation and a law to repeal Bauchi State University Establishment Law 2010 and enact a Law to establish Sa’adu zungur University 2022.

The rest he said are a Law to Establish the Bauchi State Security Trust Fund and for other connected Purposes 2022, a Law to establish Bauchi State Environmental Trust Fund 2022, a Law to repeal Bauchi State Funds Management Law 2017 and enact a Law to provide for the Management of Funds accruing to Bauchi State House of Assembly from the consolidated Revenue Fund of the State, a Law to establish the Bauchi Roads and Traffic Agency Law 2022.

On his part, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Sulaiman, said 12 bills passed by the Assembly demonstrated the existing cordial and mutual cooperation between the Executive and Legislature in Bauchi State which has become a reference point in the country.

The Speaker noted that all the laws if properly implemented by the executive, have a direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state as well as protecting their lives and property and enjoined them to continue to pray, support and cooperate with the administration of Governor Bala to enable him consolidate on the achievements recorded so far.

“I want to use this opportunity to reiterate the existing mutual cooperation and understanding between the Executive and Legislature in the state. The unprecedented infrastructural and other developments recorded in the state is no doubt a result of the good cordial relationship existing between the Executive and Legislature. I want to also assure the good people of Bauchi State that the 9th Assembly of Bauchi State, under my leadership, will continue to offer qualitative representation, enact laws and legislations that have direct bearing on their lives.”
