Bauchi deserves APC National Secretary seat- Party chieftain

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi state, Engr. Yakubu Ibrahim, has warned the party against ceding the vacant position of National Secretary of the party to Yobe state, insisting that Bauchi state should be allowed to produce the party scribe in the interest of equity and justice.

Engr. Ibrahim said in statement made available to Blueprint in Abuja on Sunday, that with the Senate President coming from Yobe state and a sitting governor in the state, it will be against the law of natural justice for the state to produce the National Secretary.

The position of National Secretary of the APC has been vacant since the election of the former occupant of the office, Mai Mala Buni as the governor of Yobe state.

The National Working Committee of the Party had also said that it was looking forward to Yobe nominating the next National Secretary which will be endorsed by the zonal leadership of the party, but Engr. Ibrahim said giving the position to Yobe may work against the party in the region.

He said “Yobe has a sitting governor right now and they have the Senate President. Borno has a sitting APC governor and the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives. Gombe has a sitting APC governor and the National Youth Leader. Adamawa has the Zonal Vice Chairman of the party. But Bauchi has noting.

“If you look at the voting pattern, Bauchi has always given the APC the highest number of votes from the North East geopolitical zone. We don’t have a governor right now and no position from the party is given to the state.

“If we disallow Bauchi the National Secretary position, it may have adverse consequences on the fortune of the party in the state. In the past, we did not fight for any position in the party because we had a governor and Speaker. Now, we have nothing and we have given the party the highest number of votes.

“If we must keep the party working again in the zone, the party must do the right thing and give us the Secretary position. We learnt that they are considering giving the position to either Yobe or Borno. That will not be fair.”

Reminded that Taraba state also has not produced any national officer of the party, he said “Taraba state has a right to agitate for the position. But I want you to remember that Taraba has never been an APC state.”
