As part of her contributions to the National Home Grown School Feeding programme being implemented in over 2, 000 public primary schools across Bauchi, the wife of the state governor, Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed Abubakar, yesterday, donated about 40, 000 pieces of uniforms and aprons to the women engaged as cooks under the scheme.
Speaking while flagging off the distribution of the materials at the Government House, the governor’s wife explained that 5, 005 cooks would be given the aprons and uniforms free of charge, adding that the gesture was for security, hygiene and identification purposes.
She noted that the school feeding programme has, since its implementation, contributed immensely towards the increase of children’s enrollment, retention, nutrition, domestic agricultural production and provided jobs to numerous jobless women in the state.
She therefore expressed appreciation to the federal government for disbursing funds to the state for the feeding and urged the cooks to reciprocate the gesture by being honest in the discharge of their duties.
Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the state governor on Social Investment Programmes, Alhaji Mansur Manu Soro, disclosed that over 500, 000 pupils were being fed in all the identified schools across the state, saying the federal government had disbursed funds for the programme for 20 school days as against other states that were paid for only 10 days.
